Creative people are weird

10 Mar

Oga booga jooha fulle zaquh…

If you don’t understand what that means, then you are not creative. Take a deep breath and accept it…
In… Out… OK

Indeed, most of the people that I know that consider themselves to be creative are weird. The keep weird hours, the eat weird food, they have weird friends.
Weird, however, is a relative term. What is weird for one person or group is not necessarily weird for another group.

I drink insane amounts of coffee and go for days without sleep. Someone would see that as weird.
I know of some people that are in bed around 9 every night. Never missing a nights sleep and never touching coffee…
That is weird to me.

I, sometimes randomly, and sometimes without warning start shouting and talking to myself. I know what you thinking, he’s not weird, he’s crazy.
I’m not crazy. Sometimes I feel a strange movement of energy inside me. A tingling of sorts, and the only way I can release it is to make a sound and funny movement.
You know that feeling you get after you see something gross? You stick out your tongue, probably say “yuck” and then shake your arms and shoulders as if shaking off what you have just seen?
It’s something like that :)

Maybe you call that weird, maybe you don’t…

Zorganthal Danse Booda…  roughly translated. Peace out!

About Young Entrepreneur

Who am I? A young business owner in Georgetown, Guyana. I have started this blog with two purposes in mind. 1. To vent: Business in Guyana has it's challenges, but being a young businessman multiples them, some exponentially. 2. Encourage discussion: Hopefully some readers can dispense some good advice that can help me as well as others.

I don’t consider myself particularly creative, but I could see how I could be seen as weird by people the majority of society think of as ‘normal’.

Unfortunately, as you said, the terms weird and normal are relative, and defined by implicit society majority vote. Since, I’d venture to say, in any of today’s societies the normal people ‘go with the flow’, then it is the weird ones that dare to be different, on the off-chance that there’s something better out there. Thus, it is us ‘weirdoes’ that help to direct, shape and sometimes revolutionise our little world. As one quote goes (don’t ask me who from)

“Reasonable men change to suit their world. Unreasonable men change the world to suit them. Therefore, all progress is made by unreasonable men”.

    Here’s to being unreasonably weird!

    Unreasonably weird indeed.
Imagine how weird Benjamin Franklin looked standing in the rain with a kite and a key…
