The following conversation took place between myself and a friend, we’ll call Andre.
Hey guy, it’s Andre!
>> Hi, what’s up?
Ahh, terrible. I lost my domain.
>> What??! How did that happen? What your account hijacked?
No, apparently it had expired. Godaddy (domain registrar) said they sent me several emails reminding me to renew it, but I didnt get it
>> How come?
The email address I have at the account is an email address I no longer use?
>> Oh boy, this is a a problem. So what are you going to do?
Well, is there anyway of getting it back?
>> You could try to buy it back from the new owners, but they might want a lot of money for it and the process might take a while.
>> Ok, listen, I can’t wait. You know email is vital to my business.
Yes
>> I need something now. Choose a suitable domain and register it for me. I need to be able to email my clients and tell them my email address has changed. Register all variants – com, net, org, info, biz, tv, mobi.
No problem. I’ll take care of it now.
Andre had lost his domain and consequently had no access to the email address he used for daily for vital communication between himself and his clients. Recognising the urgency, I stopped what I was doing and immediately began the process of registering the domains for Andre.
I proceed to setup the email addresses for himself and his staff.
A few minutes later…
Hey Andre, I have registered the domains and setup the email addresses for you.
>> Great! Thanks guy! Send your invoice please.
OK.
I sent the invoice to Andre and went on my business merrily.
It should be mentioned that Andre has a reputation of late-payment and in some cases non-payment. Would he delay my payment? No way! I’m sure he recognised that I went out of my way to ensure that his mission critical tools were in place for him to work.
Hahahahahaa… Will I ever learn?
Two weeks later I sent an email to Andre asking if I could stop by to collect the payment.
Andre responds, saying that he has sent the invoice to the Admin Asst. to be processed he will follow up on it and let me know.
